Wimbledon’s 1st round is completed

Wimbledon's 1st round is completedOn Monday and Tuesday 128 men and women competed in 1st round Wimbledon. Half of them advanced to 2nd round which will be take place in next 2 days. But already now there are huge surprises like like lose of Stan Wawrinka – 3-time Grand Slam Champion who lost with young Russian Daniil Medvedev 4-6, 6-3, 4-6, 1-6.

 

Seeded with “5” Wawrinka wasn’t one tennist from lead who couldn’t go through 1st round. Surprises are loses of no. 20 Nick Kyrgios (Australia), no. 21 Ivo Karlovic (Croatia) or no. 22 Richard Gasquet (France). Spanish Feliciano Lopez (no. 19) had to retire in 4th set against Adrien Mannarino from France due to ankle injury.

 

All of favourites advanced to next year without any doubts. No. 1 Andy Murray qualified for 2nd round after 6-1, 6-4, 6-2 victory over Alexander Bublik from Kazakhstan, no. 2 Novak Djokovic advanced to 2nd round after Martin Klizan’s retire in second set similarly like Roger Federer who won over Aleksand Dolgopolow from Ukraine. In second round there is also Rafael Nadal, who in express time defeated John Millman from Australia 6-1, 6-3, 6-2. In play there are Cilić, Thiem, Dimitrov, Berdych as well.

 

7 seeded players dismissed in 1st round women’s championships. In this group there are Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova (Russia), Darija Gavrilova (Australia), Kiki Bertens (Netherlands), Mirjana Lucic-Baroni (Croatia), Lauren Davis (USA), Zhang Shuai (China) and Roberta Vinci (Italy).

 

Dominika Cibulkova from Slovakia had some problems with promotion to 2nd round after long third set against German Andrea Petković (finally Cibulkova won 6-3, 3-6, 9-7). This year French Open Champion Jelena Ostapenko also needed 3 sets to win match against Alaksandra Sasnovich from Belarus and to qualify to 2nd round.

 

In second round there are as well no. 1 Angelique Kerber, no. 2 Simona Halep and no.3 Karolina Pliskova, who showed power and rapidly got 2nd round, where are also Elina Svitolina (Ukraine), Caroline Wozniacki (Denmark), Swietlana Kuznetsova (Russia) and Agnieszka Radwanska from Poland.

 

Wimbledon’s second round matches will take place on Wednesday and Thursday.
